Started in 1983 at various centres and presently coaching at the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu Achanta Kamala Gangadharam Table Tennis Development Centre.
The SDAT-AKG Table Tennis Development Centre situated in a sprawling 12,000 sq.ft hall at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, is spearheaded by the Rao Brothers, who started coaching way back in the early 80’s with only a couple of tables, dim lights and inconspicuous locations. The Academy has advanced by leaps and bounds and today is one of the best table tennis facilities in the country.

GOALS
- Setting up a national table tennis academy with world class facilities.
- Producing champions in the international arena, especially for the Olympics.
- Extending the promotional activities to the District and Village levels.
- Developing the game at grass root levels.
- Recognising and training promising underprivileged children to help them enter the zonal, national and international arena.
WELFARE INITIATIVES – Giving Back With Interest
- Around 60% of the players of our academy, who are doing extremely well at the state level tournaments, belong to the low-income strata of society and are unable to bear travel and stay expenses, to play in key national tournaments. They need financial support to progress to higher levels in the National and International arena. The academy aims to support them by way of offering training and kits, free of cost. The academy will also look to find appropriate sponsorships for these players.
- The Rao brothers also introduce the world of table tennis to specially abled persons, auditory challenged individuals and people with artificial limbs. The level of success they achieve is indeed an acclaim to their skills as coaches.
